MURTADA Mansour, former president of Zamalek Club, has been sentenced to three years in prison after being found guilty of insulting a justice authority and attacking his aides. The verdict was issued yesterday by the Giza Court. Mansour had been charged with assault when earlier this year he stormed the office of the head of the State Council El-Sayed Nofal, physically attacking Nofal's assistants as he sought information on a court case he was involved in at the time. He was remanded in custody and hospitalised after fears he was suicidal. After the verdict was read out in court, 25 of Mansour's followers disrupted the proceedings. They, too, were given jail terms. The verdict effectively ends any hopes Mansour and his backers harboured of returning to Zamalek as its president after he was removed by the National Sports Council. His ouster had been instigated at last year's FA Cup final. In an unprecedented incident in the stands, Mansour touched off a mass brawl which engulfed President Hosni Mubarak's personal envoy at the game.
