Prominent blogger and military critic Maikel Nabil has been released from prison on Monday evening. Field Marshall Tantawi announced on 21 January that 1959 prisoners would be released on the anniversary of the January 25 Revolution. The announcement included a pardon of Nabil. Nabil was arrested in March on charges of insulting the military after writing a blog post entitled “The army and the people were never one hand”, one month after the military junta assumed power following the ouster of autocratic leader Hosni Mubarak. The blogger's brother, Mark Nabil, says that he will release a statement shortly.
