لوحات الفنان حمدي عقدة بسيطة في تكنيكها وفي موضوعاتها، لكنها قوية في رموزها التعبيرية غير التقليدية، فهو يمزج الألوان بأسلوب عفوي بعيد عن التشذيب والتصوير الأكاديمي، ويختزل الفضاء الإنشائي، ويظهر الضوء من خلال ضربات الفرشاة الغنية بألوانها الحارة والقاسية وغير المتوقعة.
والفنان حمدي لا يحدث تغيرات جذرية في التشريح، ولا يشوه النسب، لكنه في الوقت نفسه لا يوصف المظهر الخارجي للأشياء والشخوص، ولا يستنتخ الفيزيائيات الموجودة في الطبيعة، ببعدها الثالث المنطقي، وإنما يستقرئ بواطنها باستعارة أسلوب التصميم التجريدي، وقد يبدو الفنان في هذا متأثرا بأسلوب النحت الفطري الإفريقي، وله فيه أعمال عديدة.
ولا يهتم الفنان حمدي بالظلال والتجسيمات، وإنما يعتمد على درجة حرارة الألوان ليوحي بذلك، فهو لا يسلط الضوء على شخوص لوحاته، وإنما يجعله نابعا من أجسامهم عبر تباين التدرجات اللونية.
