The book was edited by Samia Mehrez, professor of Arabic literature at AUC and director of the centre. The book includes research articles and certificates of linguists, artists, writers and researchers from Egypt and the world specialised in the Arabic language and translation, including the late translator Denys Johnson-Davies, who translated the works of Naguib Mahfouz to English.
The book also highlights the key roles of Humphrey T. The book contains six parts, the first part of the interpreter: memories, testimonies and ideas. The second part is about translation, immigration, and identity, and the third part is for literary translation: challenges and opportunities, while part four is about translation across languages, cultures, and records. Part five is translation across disciplines while part six on the translation of theatre and art.
Speakers at the seminar will be Lisa Anderson, former president of AUC, Emad Abu Ghazi, a professor of archival studies at Cairo University and former Minister of Culture, as well as Mona Baker, a professor of translation studies and director of the Center for Translation at the University of Manchester, England, Humphrey T. The university is a community of students, parents, faculty and staff, trustees, alumni and other generous sponsors representing more than 60 countries.
