FARMINGTON: It all started with a business plan that was perfectly executed and carried to fruition. Once school was over and summer vacation began, four friends from Farmington, Michigan, USA, launched a club to help animals – Pets and Wildlife Savers (PAWS). Sisters Abbey and Julie Carvey, 8 and 11, respectively, and Lilly and Holly Truitt, raised money by starting a lemonade stand, and doing odds and ends jobs around the neighborhood such as dog walking, raking, weeding, watering, and picking up doggy droppings. By the time summer ended, the friends made US$244.50, which they donated to Michigan Animal Rescue League in Pontiac, along with knotted fleece blankets for the animals that they had made from leftover fabrics. “They truly showed a lot of ingenuity, hard work and business savvy. Not the typical way kids spend their summer vacation!” said mom Lisa Truitt. Hats off to Abbey, Julie, Lilly, and Holly for your loving hearts toward our animal friends. BM
