Xiamen [China] - At a press conference held on the sidelines of the BRICS summit on Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the return of Cairo-Moscow flights is imminent and at its full service, according to Sputnik News Agency.
Flights between Egypt and Russia were suspended following the crash of the Russian plane in the Sinai Peninsula on October 31, 2015, leaving 224 passengers killed. After the airplane crash, other countries have suspended their flights to Egypt, but resumed them later.
Putin further said that he wishes that Egypt could manage to address the "aviation security", adding that Moscow attends to Egypt's efforts in this regard.
Egypt has made a number of upgrades and modifications to the security measures at the airport, but still negotiations on the resumption of flights are going on between both sides. The Russian plane incident was identified by President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi as a terror attack.
On September 4, President Sisi and Putin met on the sidelines of the 9th BRICS summit.
The two leaders discussed boosting bilateral cooperation and other issues of mutual interest.
Earlier in the day, President Sisi addressed a session organized by the BRICS summit on the positive developments of the Egyptian economy.
The session was attended by a host of businessmen representing the BRICS member states.
