Cairo International Airport welcomes a second Kuwaiti airline to the Cairo-Kuwait route on a daily basis , Amirah Ibrahim reports The new Kuwaiti airline Wataniya Airways will join the Kuwaiti flag carrier, Kuwait Airways on regular flights between the two capitals, adding Cairo to its existing flights to Dubai, Bahrain and Beirut. "This is an acknowledgement of the strong Kuwaiti-Egyptian bilateral relations which have been instrumental in allowing us to negotiate this route amidst competition for the ever popular slots at Cairo airport," said Abdul Salam Al-Bahar, chairman and managing director of Wataniya Airways. "We are delighted to have been able to select Cairo as the third destination for Wataniya Airways as our research has indicated this to be one of the most popular routes for travellers from Kuwait," said Al-Bahar. "Cairo is one of the most vibrant cities in the Middle East, offering a plethora of benefits from business to culture to popular entertainment. Al-Bahar, accompanied by the CEO George Cooper and a number of airline officials, arrived onboard the first flight to launch the new operation with Egypt. "Wataniya Airways' proposition is to provide the most convenient schedules with competitive prices for a top product and combine these with the highly popular destinations of our guests. As Cairo is one of the most popular destinations for travellers from Kuwait, we are delighted to be able to offer this to our guests." The new route will operate with A320 aircraft with 26 first class and 96 premium economy seats. Operating to Cairo International comes under stringent aviation regulations that limit the access for international carriers. As the route is highly competitive, the confirmation of this route represents a significant achievement by Kuwait's newest premium airline which was launched in late January. "This is a special occasion commemorating the close relations that Kuwait and Egypt have enjoyed for many decades. We are pleased that we are able to support Wataniya Airways in its maxim of 'achieving new heights'," said Emad Salam, president of Egypt's Civil Aviation Authority. Wataniya Airways is the first commercial airline to fly to and from the exclusive Sheikh Saad Terminal in Kuwait, previously called the Royal Terminal. It is the first time that any commercial airline has operated from a location other than Kuwait International Airport.
