Ahli failed to clinch the Egyptian football league title after being held to a 2-2 draw by Petrojet. Inas Mazhar reports On the same day, Monday, second and third place Ismaili and Zamalek both won to further delay Ahli's bid for its 100th trophy in its centenary year. The tie with Petrojet gave Ahli 67 points with four games left. Ismaili, which drubbed Petrol Assuit 4-0, has 58 points with three games remaining and Zamalek, after defeating Cement Suez 3-1, are on 56 points with four matches to go. Defending champions Ahli displayed a lacklustre performance which confirmed that the team has not yet recovered from their 4-0 downfall against European champions Barcelona in their friendly last week. The Zamalek game had followed the basketball league final which had seen Ahli beat Zamalek. Angry Zamalek fans then rushed to the football stadium in the hope their support would upset Ahli supporters, while disappointed Ahli backers desperately wanted Cement Suez to win. The ensuing result were clashes between Ahli and Zamalek fans in Cairo Stadium. Haras Al-Hedoud took sole possession of fourth place with 38 points. Ghazl Al-Mehalla and Al-Geish have 35 points each, settling in fifth and sixth place. With 34 points Enppi is in seventh. Petrojet has 33 points for eighth place. The Arab Contractors and Cement Suez are ninth and tenth with 30 points each. Tersana, Ittihad and Masri share 29 points and are placed 11th, 12th and 13th respectively. Despite edging the Arab Contractors 2-1, Tanta, along with Olympic and Petrol Assuit look set to be relegated at the end of the season. Other results in week 26 saw Tersana send off Ghazl Al-Mehalla 3-1, Haras Al-Hedoud knocked Olympic 4-2 and Al-Geish got by Ittihad 1-0. Enppi and Masri played to a scoreless draw.
