Seven people were killed, including two children, and 20 others were injured when an East Delta bus traveling from Zagazig to the new Administrative Capital flipped over on the Ain Sokhna – Suez highway on Wednesday mornning. The ambulance authority dispatched 25 ambulances to the site of the accident. The victims were transferred to Suez General Hospital. The Suez' prosecution is currently investigating the accident. Deadly road accidents take place on a near-daily basis in Egypt, which suffers from poorly maintained road infrastructure and loosely applied traffic regulations. However, the government's increased spending on developing infrastructure, roads, and bridges since 2018 has led to a decrease in the number of deaths resulting from road accidents in 2020. Parliament has recently passed a new traffic law which aims to reduce traffic violations and accidents. In 2019, Egypt was ranked 28th in terms of the quality of road infrastructure in the World Economic Forum's Global Competitive Report, up from the 118th place in 2014.
