Siemens plans to add 1,200 MW to the national grid next month from three production units at the New Administrative Capital power plant. Siemens has started conducting operating tests for three production units of the New Administrative Capital power station, which will last for three weeks, and then will link the capacity to the national electricity grid, sources at the Ministry of Electricity said. The company will also add 400 MW from the Beni Suef power station in February 2018. According to the agreement with the German company, 1,600 MW will be added in March 2018, including 1,200 MW across three production units from the Beni Suef plant and 400 MW from the power plant of Brulus. The sources pointed out that April 2018 will see the addition of 2,000 MW, adding 1,200 MW through three production units in the New Administrative Capital station, 400 MW from the Brulus station, and 400 MW from the power plant in Beni Suef. Another 400 MW will be added from Brulus in May 2018. The capacity will then reach 14,400 MW. Gaber Desouky, chairperson of the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company (EEHC), said that the first phase of the three projects will add 4,800 MW to the total energy grid, including 2,400 MW from six production units in Beni Suef, 1,600 MW from four units in Brulus, and 800 MW from two production units in the New Administrative Capital power plant. The Ministry of Electricity has contracted Siemens to establish three power plants with a total capacity of 14,400 MW through an EBC + Finance system. Siemens handles design, construction, and financing, while EEHC repays the loan over several years. Three German banks, KfW Development Bank, HSBC, and Deutsche Bank, secured funding for Siemens' projects in Egypt, amounting to €4.1bn of a total contract value of €6bn. Arab banks secured the remaining funding in Egyptian pounds to pay for the Egyptian companies participating in construction, including Elsewedy Electric and Orascom.
