Thrust Club opens in Cairo
Published in Daily News Egypt on 24 - 10 - 2007

I want to create a proper music club where husbands can take their wives and feel safe, says Mohamed Medhat, managing director of Thrust for Production and Promotion.
The latest branch of Thrust Clubs opening tonight at the Intercontinental City Stars hotels in Cairo is set to reinvent the clubbing scene in Egypt.
For the past six months, Medhat and his company have been working relentlessly to create what he refers to as the biggest music club in the Middle East. With a capacity of 1,500-2,000 people, Thrust is expected to outdo the largest music clubs in Dubai, the capital of the clubbing scene in the Middle East.
Thrust is a UK-based global brand with sub-outlets in Dubai, England, Australia and other nations. The decision to venture into Egypt stemmed from Medhat s belief that there isn't a single proper club in the country.
Medhat believes that all clubbing venues in Egypt are essentially pubs. People here are yet to grasp the real concept of clubbing, he said. The lack of rules on behalf of these bars is the reason why constant problems emerge. A large part of current clubs customers go in just to make trouble.
This explains Thrust s decision to limit the club s clients to Egypt's A class and foreigners. A free membership will be required to enter and be able to book tickets the second week after the opening. Memberships can be obtained via an application submitted to and evaluated by club management.
Unlike the majority of clubs in Egypt, no one under the age of 21 will be permitted to enter Thrust and the couples rule will be strictly applied.
Door prices range between LE 100 to LE 300 according to the scale of events. The large bar serves a variety of drinks and snacks and the spacious dance stage is designed to contain the large number of expected visitors. Three VIP areas are also available.
Medhat is determined to bring in the best 200 DJs in the world to Thrust Cairo. The biggest names in house music such as Tiesto, John Digweed, Sacha and David Guetta are expected to perform in the future.
Every Thursday and Friday will feature a different international DJ. Weekdays will offer a variety of music and entertainment, including R n B, oldies and karaoke.
Concerts thrown by major DJs take place every five or six months. People now will get the chance to attend gigs of that magnitude every weekend.
Medhat states that Thrust is targeting true dance music lovers who stopped going to clubs due to the recurrent brawls, deficiency of security and never-ending harassment by younger customers.
DJ Hady Tarek - who s scheduled to perform tonight along with DJ/producer Progressive Thrust - asserts that such a club with high value and class will attract an older, more sensible audience who are highly selective of the setting music is played in.
As for his expectations, Medhat s overly optimistic. We re determined to become the best club in Egypt, he said. There s simply no other club like Thrust in this country.
