Al-Nour Party's board member, Shaaban Abdel Alim said Sunday in a statement to Al-Bawaba News that the former regime members are spending millions of Egyptian pounds to win a decent number of seats in the upcoming parliamentary elections. Abdel Alim accused former regime members and loyalist businessmen of buying votes in order to create a strong popular base that would ensure a decent number of parliamentary seats in the upcoming elections. He stressed that this practice is forbidden by law and eliminates the principle of equal opportunities, adding that former regime members and businessmen loyal to them are benefiting from the delay of the High Elections Committee (HEC) to announce the dates of the elections. Furthermore, he pointed out that his party is anticipating the HEC's announcement of the elections' dates in order to launch the elections' campaign. He explained that there should be clear and specific laws for the electoral process, highlighting that if the HEC did not issue clear and specific regulations, then the former regime members and businessmen loyal to them would most likely have the upper hand in the upcoming elections.
