The strategy of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is to spread sectarianism across Saudi Arabia, the kingdom's interior ministry spokesman said Sunday. The group also bases its strategy on "splitting the kingdom into five divisions and targeting security personnel," Maj.-Gen. Mansour Al-Turki said during a press conference that followed a terror attack that hit the country this week. On Friday, a suicide bomber blew himself up during prayers at a mosque in the eastern village of al-Qadeeh, killing at least 21 and wounding 81 others. During the conference, Al-Turki also said that an ISIS-allied cell had planned the assassination of five officers. He also mentioned that the cell was formed four months ago. Speaking about the killing of the head of the facilities security department patrol Majed Ayedh Al-Ghamdi, Al-Turki said that two of those involved in the crime attended a wedding party after the assassination. In May, masked men opened fire at a patrol car in the south of Riyadh that killed Al-Ghamdi. The incident was the latest in a series of attacks on security forces in Saudi Arabia.
