Giza criminal court, headed by Judge Mohamed Nagy Shehata, will try Thursday 5 defendants in the case publicly known as the "Kerdasa Massacre" case. The defendants face charges of killing 11 police officers and mutilating their bodies, attempting to murder 10 other police station officers, and burning a number of police vehicles. On February 2, the court sentenced 183 other defendants to death, 2 defendants were cleared of all charges, and one was sentenced to 10 years in prison in Kerdasa Massacre case. After security forces dispersed the Rabaa Al-Adaweya and Al-Nahda sit-ins on 14 August 2013, Muslim Brotherhood supporters and Bedouin militants stormed the Kerdasa police station, killing 11 officers. On 19 September 2013, security forces raided the village to arrest the perpetrators of the police station attack. Giza's deputy security chief, Major General Nabil Farrag was killed during the raid.
