Two policemen were injured early Wednesday after three gunmen on a motorbike opened fire on a guard post of the DR Congo embassy in Cairo, the Interior ministry said. The ministry added that a security patrol had chased the assailants and had arrested two of them with help from the the residents, but the third one managed to flee.
The security forces seized a pistol in the gunmen possession, which had been stolen from the Qalubiya province Security Directorate in the events that followed the January 2011 revolution. Meanwhile, a team of prosecutors arrived at the embassy to inspect the crime scene, while the injured were transferred to Agouza hospital to receive treatment. Security personnel has become the target of a violent Islamist insurgency since the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi in 2013.
