OSN's premium Alfa channels will pay tribute to Egyptian actress Faten Hamama, who passed away Saturday at 83. Hamama, the "lady of the Arabic Screen," leaves behind an extensive record of works that established her as an iconic symbol of Egyptian and Arab cinema. Alfa's tribute will include memorials to the life and work of on its Al Youm and Fann channels. Hamama started her career before she was ten years old, and acted in over 100 films. She collaborated with Egypt's finest film professionals including Youssef Chahine and Omar Sharif, as well as starring in romantic films alongside celebrated singer/actor Abdel Halim Hafez. Through her films, Hamama advocated women's rights and emphasized the importance of women in cinema and Egyptian society.
Faten Hamama was named "Star of the Century" in 2000 by the Egyptian Writers and Critics Organization. She also received the DIFF Life time Achievement Award in 2009 among many other accolades. Eight of the films she starred in were listed in the top 100 films in the history of Egyptian cinema.
As part of Alfa's tribute to the Egyptian star, channels Cinema1 and Cinema2 will showcase 12 films back to back starring Hamama.
