Salmon Fishing in the Yemen THE CHARMING ancient city of Luxor will celebrate the birth of the first edition of the Luxor Egyptian and European Film Festival (17-22 September), having hosted the Luxor African Film Festival in its first edition last year. Directed by film critic Magda Wasef, the Luxor Egyptian and European Film Festival is organised by the Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the Noon Foundation for Culture and Arts. Films participating in the competition include Barbara (Germany) directed by Christian Petzold, The Bear (Romania) directed by Dan Chisu, The Box (Serbia) directed by Andrijana Stojkovic, Fish'n' Chips (Greece) directed by Elias Demetriou, The Good Son (Finland) directed by Zaida Bergroth, Graveyard Keeper's Daughter (Estonia) directed by Katrin Laur, Les neiges du Klimanjaro (France) directed by Robert Guédiguian, Baad Al-Mawke'a (After the Battle, Egypt) directed by Yousri Nasrallah, Viagem a Portugal (Portugal) directed by Sergio Trefaut and Wilaya (Spain) directed by Pedro Pérez Rosato. The festival will open with the British film Salmon Fishing in the Yemen directed by Lasse Hallström, starring the Egyptian actor Amr Waked along with Ewan McGregor, Emily Blunt and Catherine Steadman.
