A trio of Egyptian clubs won in their African football club championships but Zamalek were unable to do likewise. Abeer Anwar reports Ahli, six-time African champion started their African campaign by beating South Africa's Super Sport United 2-0 in their Orange CAF Champions League 32nd round clash played in Cairo Stadium. Due to the stoppage of the national league tournament for more than two months the players showed little fitness and at times little concentration, their minds apparently still on the revolution and Egypt's future. Ahli played several friendlies during the halt in play, but against Super Sport, did not play as a team and lacked lustre. Mohamed Abu Treika, Ahli's super attacker, was invisible. Osama Hosni scored in the third minute while Mauritania import Dominique Da Silva sealed the win late in the 83rd minute. Ahli players were in deep slumber after the first goal while Super Sport lost a number of chances to score. Manuel Jose, Ahli's Portuguese manager, made a number of changes when Super Sport had the upper hand but the moves proved futile. After the match, Jose was not satisfied with the score as it makes Ahli's second leg match not so easy. He criticised the scouting report he received about his opponent which described the South African team as weak and which could easily be beaten by six or seven goals. "I was tricked. The South Africans were a strong rival and were able to endanger Ahli's net during a number of well-organised attacks," Jose said, adding that in their second leg match, Ahli players will start on the attack and try to score early to disrupt Super Sport's defences from the beginning. Super Sport United's coach Gavin Hunt: "We were near to victory and we should have scored six goals but it is still not too late as the goal difference can be made up in the coming match." The second leg will be staged in Pretoria in a fortnight. In a match between two clubs whose countries are in the midst of revolutions, Zamalek lost to Tunisia's Club Africain 4-2 in Rades, Tunisia. Tunisia player Iso Shal scored at the beginning to upset Zamalek's strategy. Shikabala tied for Zamalek before Africain made it 3-1. Ahmed Gaafar pulled one back for Zamalek but Africain made it 4-2. JS Kabylie beat ASC Tevragh Zeine of Mauritania at Tizi Ouzou and St Eloi Lupopo of DR Congo overcame Zambian side Nchanga Rangers. In Kampala, hosts Victors were held to a one all draw by visiting Motema Pembe of DR Congo. Sudanese side El-Nil managed a 1-1 draw with Missile FC of Gabon in Khartoum. Nigerian duo, Kaduna United and Sunshine Stars recorded 2-0 wins over Foullah Edufice of Chad and Tiko United of Cameroon respectively. In the Orange CAF Confederation Cup in round 32, in Ismailia, Egyptian side Ismaili beat Kenya's Sofapaka 2-0. The match began with one minute of silence for those who died during January's demonstrations, plus the death of Sayed Seddik, Ismaili board member. Ismaili's Mohamed Mohsen Abu Greisha and Hosni Abd Rabu secured an early win with strikes in the 7th and 15th minute of the first half. But Ismaili players played only one half before lack of physical fitness got the better of them. In extra time, Sofapaka's goalkeeper was injured and had to be substituted by an outfielder after the team made all three substitutions. "I am satisfied with the result especially that it is our first match but I wanted the players to score more goals to make our second leg match easier," Mark Fota, Ismaili's manager said. "We have to work hard and prepare well in the next two weeks to be able to make up for our mistakes and raise the physical fitness of the players." Egypt's Haras Al-Hodoud scored big time against Dedebit, crushing the Ethiopian side 4-0. Haras Al-Hodoud's petition to play an hour late was accepted by the African federation as Egyptians wanted the opportunity to watch Zamalek's match against Africain. Al-Hodoud 's stars Ahmed Mekki, Mohamed Halim, Abdel-Rahman Mohei and Ahmed Abdel-Ghani scored in the 7th, 58th, 78th and the 87th minutes respectively to make its second leg match a mere formality. Haras were also given the chance to vote on Saturday on the country's constitutional amendments. In other games, Algeria's Mouloudia Club suffered a heavy 4-1 loss to Zimbabwean side Dynamos in the first leg first played in Harare on 20 March. TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo defeated Simba of Tanzania 3-1 in their quest for a third consecutive African Champions League title. Tunisian duo Etoile du Sahel and Olympique Beja took giant leaps towards a place in the next round of the Orange CAF Confederation Cup with convincing wins. There were also wins for reigning champions FUS Rabat of Morocco, JS Kabylie of Algeria, Angola's Primero de Agosto and St Eloi Lupopo of DR Congo. Etoile du Sahel beat Ashanti Gold of Ghana 3- 0 in Sousse. Elsewhere in Beja, Olympique beat Difaa El-Jadida of Morocco 2-0. FUS Rabat defeated Senegalese debutantes Toure Kunda 2-0.
