MRS Suzanne Mubarak visited Aswan on 26 January to check on those affected by torrential rains which flooded several villages in Aswan and Sinai, Reem Leila reports. During her visit Mrs Mubarak promised residents that the compensation allocated to build new houses damaged or destroyed by the floods would be increased from LE25,000 to LE80,000 for each family. She also promised that land dedicated to build such houses will be augmented. Mrs Mubarak, who held a public meeting, said new villages must be productive to provide job opportunities for their youth. "Small projects are to be created in such villages which meet environmental circumstances in order to increase income," Mrs Mubarak said. "We will support all those who lost their houses, jobs and belongings. At the same time, the government will support the widow or divorcee who works to support her children," Mrs Mubarak added. "There will also be training programmes for youth." During the meeting Mrs Mubarak said she will visit Sinai soon to follow up on the efforts being made to help those affected by the floods. In the same context, the Food Bank has sent goods and supplies to the devastated areas. The food will be sufficient for at least one month. The bank has also organised a big campaign which includes 891 NGOs to gather donations.
