Founded in Ismailia in 1994 in cooperation with Mohamed El Waziery, the "King of Simsimia", as he was called among the Canal Zone people. When El Waziry met Zakaria Ibrahim, they dreamt of replicating the El Tanbura experience that flourished in Port Said by gathering the retired suhbagia (local musicians of this tradition) and presenting a weekly performance in Ismailia. After El Waziry's death in 2008, the band changed their name to El Waziery to memorialize their leader.
