Mohamed Al-Tarawi's newest exhibition of oil paintings has been inaugurated at Grant Gallery. Entitled "Dialogues", the exhibition showcases 21 works that reflect a turning point in the artits's art career -- his usage of a new technique which blends abstraction with cubism that totally differs from his past style that focused on impressionism. Al-Tarawi's paintings depict Egypt's ravishing landscape whether in the Siwa Oases or Aswan. The artist brilliantly succeeded in distinguishing himself among his peers who have mastered oil painting, whether those belonging to the first generation such as Hedayat and Fatema Refaat, Karam Al-Assal and Adli Rizkallah or his contemporaries including Shaker Al-Maadawi and Galal Al-Husseini. Oil painting is a very difficult and sensitive art medium to deal with, however, Al-Tarawi managed to tame it using it smoothly to reflect his talent and vivid imagination plus his very own technique characterised by extreme yet detailed simplicity. Al-Tarawi gained a reputation for paintings that are abstract in form but realistic in perception. His expressionist abstraction wraps up all important details of the scene, however, it preserves the general lines and the main features that show the artist's reaction to scenes that are dear to his heart. He echoes them on canvas through his romantic imagination characterised by his very own vision which is equal to none. The exhibition runs until 30 December.
