Bye-Bye Botox
As we age, skin loses its ability to retain moisture and its natural elasticity decreases. The amount of collagen that our skin produces is reduced, causing skin to lose its firmness, wrinkle and sag. Any frequent and repetitive facial movements over long periods of time can cause wrinkles to form. The mere act of smiling or squinting your eyes in the sunlight is enough to produce wrinkles.
If you cannot afford expensive trips to the dermatologist, here are some tried and tested natural ways to reduce and treat your wrinkles at home:
- Drink eight full glasses of water each day to keep your skin hydrated. If your skin is too dry, it can cause your wrinkles to appear deeper than they really are.
- Wear sunglasses whenever you go out in the sun. This will keep you from squinting and prevent the fine lines around your eyes from turning into deep wrinkles.
- Avoid using facial products containing alcohol. Alcohol is drying and can cause wrinkles to form. Use products containing water or witch hazel instead.
- Use facial creams containing light, natural oils, such as evening primrose oil or avocado oil. These will absorb into your skin easily and plump up existing wrinkles.
- Apply moisturiser as soon as you wash your face or shower. This will lock the water from washing into your face, keeping your face hydrated and smoothing out wrinkles.
- Use a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15 whenever you go outside. Prolonged exposure to sunlight can toughen and age skin, leading to wrinkles. Make sure the sunscreen you wear has both UVA and UVB protection.
- Don't try to cover wrinkles with concealer; this makes the wrinkles more prominent, as the concealer settles into the wrinkles and highlights them.
- Evaluate your diet. Make sure to eat leafy greens and fruits that are high in antioxidants.
- Make sure to exfoliate your skin one to two times a week — once if your skin is oily and twice if your skin is dry. The exfoliator will buff away dead skin cells and will result in a more refreshed look.
- Sleep with a satin pillowcase. The material on standard pillowcases can be harsher to your face. Also sleep on your back. Sleeping on your side can cause wrinkles since gravity will pull the skin down.
- Avoid tugging or pulling on your skin, especially the area around your eyes. The skin there is very delicate.
Homemade masks
Getting rid of wrinkles at home is quite possible. The following ingredients will nourish and deep cleanse your skin, leaving it softer and smoother.
Before applying any masks onto your skin you should thoroughly cleanse the face to allow deeper penetration and improve the effectiveness of the mask. Don't expect miraculous transformations and quick results right away. Consistency is the key to great results.

For face wrinkles
For any skin type:
Grate 1 fresh cucumber, add 2 tablespoons olive oil and 1 egg yolk, then stir and add 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar. Apply the mixture onto your face. Keep it on for half an hour and rinse with water.
Chocolate Mask:
Mix one mashed avocado, 3 tablespoons of raw cacao powder, 2 teaspoons of raw honey and 1 tablespoons of cinnamon. Gently massage the mixture onto your face and leave it on for about 25 minutes. Rinse the mask off with warm water. Chocolate revolutionises your skin due to the various antioxidant and nutritious properties of cacao, this mask can effectively prevent premature aging and make your skin truly radiant.
For around the eye wrinkles
Strawberry mask:
With a fork, mash 2-3 strawberries. Add 1 teaspoon of honey to the mixture. Use cotton balls to apply the mixture around the eyes and leave it on for 20 minutes. Remove the mask with a cotton ball soaked in milk.
