American University in Cairo Wed 21, 9pm: The Lions of Cairo chamber ensemble is dedicated to the creative reconstruction of early Western music and explore how it parallels and synchronizes with the repertory of classical Arab music and Byzantine chant. This programme travels from Bach and Geminiani back into the earliest known reaches of written Western music. Italian Cultural Institute Sun 25, 7pm (Online): To celebrate Italy's Liberation Day on 25 April, the institute offers a special jazz concert through its YouTube channel. Roberto Gatto, famous Italian drummer who has collaborated with the greatest jazz players in the world, will play together with Alfonso Santimone and Pierpaolo Ranieri in a perfect trio under the banner of jazz as the music of freedom. The collaboration with Makan - Egyptian Centre for Culture and Arts continues online from March until May 2021. Egyptian musicians will virtually meet Italian counterparts to create synergies in the field of traditional and folk music.
