French side Marseille are interested in signing former Arsenal defender Sol Campbell, chairman Pape Diouf said on Wednesday. "Sol Campbell is among the players about which we have spoken," Diouf told Marseille's official website. "He forms part of the group of players who have showed defensive effectiveness at the highest level," he added. Campbell has been linked with several teams in Europe after he decided to leave Arsenal following five years with the club, looking for a fresh challenge outside the Premiership. Marseille are reportedly competing with Italian giants Inter Milan and Turkey's Fenerbahce for the 31-year-old's signature. However, Diouf insisted no deal has been struck with the experienced defender yet. "We are interested in him, but we cannot absolutely affirm that today there is a sufficient bond between L'OM and Sol Campbell to say that he will be with us this season." Campbell joined Arsenal from London rivals Tottenham in 2001, where he helped the Gunners win two Premiership titles and three FA Cups.
