Published in Daily News Egypt on 12 - 03 - 2014

Newly promoted Minya secured their second win of the season on Match-day 12 by netting three goals against Haras Al-Hodood on Monday.
Mohamed Qaoud opened the scoring in the 31st minute, which Amr Othman and Islam Roshdi added to in the second half to secure the win. The victory brings them level on eight points with Telephonat Beni Suef in Group 2, but the latter has two games in hand over Minya.
Both Talaea Al Geish vs Petrojet and Ghazl Al-Mahalla vs Dakhlia ended 0-0, while Al-Ittihad Al-Sakandary and Arab Contractors secured 1-0 victories over Raga'a and ENPPI respectively. The fixture between Gouna and Misr Makasa was postponed due to bad weather.
Four fixtures in Match-day 12 remained to be played at the time of writing. Al-Zamalek host Telephonat Beni Suef on Wednesday afternoon and will look to continue their unbeaten run under new manager Ahmed Mido. Wadi Degla will also host Ittihad El-Shorta in the second Wednesday fixture.
Al-Ahly is looking to bounce back against El-Entag El-Harby, following a poor run of domestic form. The Red Devils have lost three of their last five matches, winning only once. The early Thursday game will see Ismaily try to secure a win to claim the top spot in Group 2 from Petrojet.
In African football Al-Ahly, Al-Zamalek, Ismaily and Wadi Degla all progressed to the last-16 of the Confederation of African Football Champions League and Confederation Cup this week.
Al-Ahly, who are looking to defend their Champions League title, progressed in dramatic style to the last-16. Their two-leg tie with Tanzanian outfit, Young Africans, ended 1-1 after extra-time, taking the game to a penalty shoot-out. Al-Ahly won the shoot-out 4-3, with Young Africans squandering an opportunity progress, missing a penalty under pressure and allowing Al-Ahly to claim victory. They will face Libyan side Ahly Benghazi in the next round.
Al-Zamalek held Kabuscorp to scoreless draw last friday in the return fixture in Angola, going through to the last-16 of the Champions League having secured a 1-0 aggregate lead in Cairo in the first leg. Al-Zamalek will face Zambian team Nkana in the round of 16.
In the Confederation Cup Ismaily also endured a penalty shoot-out against FC MK of Congo, winning 4-3 to face Angolan side Atletico Petroleos in the next round.
Wadi Degla secured their place in the last-16 by putting 2 past AS Douanes Lomé having drawn 1-1 in Togo the week before.
The round of 16 first-leg fixtures for both African competitions will be played over 21, 22 and 23 March.
