Buenos Aires (dpa) – Two spectators died when the small plane in which they were following the Dakar Rally crashed to the ground, Argentine media reported Monday. The accident, which killed a 37-year-old and his 12-year-old son, reportedly happened Sunday near the town of Tres Arroyos. The site was not far from the tracks where vehicles were competing in the first stage of the offroad race, which also claimed the life of Argentine motorcycle competitor Jorge Martinez Boero, 38. Since the race was first held in 1979, the controversial Dakar Rally has claimed scores of lives, including those of 25 competitors.
