Bomb disposal experts defused Friday an improvised explosive device (IED) near a public Telecom Center in Kafr Al Dawar, Beheira Province, northwest of Cairo, Egyptian security sources told Al Bawaba News. The bomb, consisting of wires, batteries and gunpowder, was defused with a water cannon, the sources said, adding the police have combed the surrounding area in search of any other potential threat. Since the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi, July 2013, thousands of IED blasts have caused numerous casualties among security personnel and civilians, particularly in the volatile Sinai Peninsula. The Islamic State (IS)-linked Wilayat Sinai terrorist group has repeatedly claimed responsibility for the blasts.
