Bomb disposal experts defused Thursday an improvised explosive device (IED) near a hospital in Bilbeis, 50 kilometers from the capital city of Cairo, Egyptian security sources told Al-Bawaba News. The bomb, consisting of wires, batteries and gunpowder, was planted near the Bilbeis Central Hospital gate, the sources added. Since the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi July 2013, thousands of IED blasts have caused causalities among security personnel and civilians, particularly in the volatile Sinai Peninsula. The Islamic State (IS)-linked Wilayat Sinai terrorist group has repeatedly claimed responsibility for those blasts.
