GENEVA, March 8 (MENA) - Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Omar Marwan headed the Egyptian delegation taking part in the annual session of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) on the rights of the persons with disabilities. Addressing the session held Wednesday at the council's premises in Geneva, the minister expressed Egypt's keenness to take part in this year's talks, as the government attaches great importance to the rights and needs of the people with disabilities. He noted that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi had earlier announced that 2018 will be the year of persons with disabilities in Egypt. The minister said that the 20l4 Constitution secures all the rights of the people with disabilities and obliges the state to integrate them into the society. The constitution, he added, prohibits discrimination against them and guarantees that they are suitably represented in the parliamentary and local councils, the minister said.
