Earlier, Egypt's National Council for Childhood and Motherhood (NCCM) launched an initiative to make one more village child-friendly in Upper Egypt's Fayoum, with the aim of supporting children's rights and empowering their families. The Council has adopted a broader plan laid out to develop 50 villages across the governorate by raising the awareness of both children and families. World Children's Day – celebrated annually on 20 November and now in its fifth year – aims to raise awareness for the millions of children that are denied their right to adequate health care, nutrition, education and protection, and to elevate young people's voices as critical to any discussions about their future.
