Egypt's Minister of Health Hala Zayed said, on Wednesday, that the total number of vaccination centres reached 830 nationwide, including travel centres.
The Egyptian cabinet held a meeting, headed by Egypt's Prime Mostafa Madbouly, to review the latest developments regarding the coronavirus pandemic locally and internationally, and the vaccination situation.
Zayed highlighted the latest statements of the Director of the World Health Organization regarding the position of providing vaccines internationally, in which he indicated that Egypt is one of the first countries in the African continent that worked on multiple sources of vaccines to ensure access to the greatest coverage of vaccines compared to most African countries.
Zayed reviewed the developments of the vaccine awareness campaign, which included 18 governorates from 16 to 21 September, namely: Cairo, Giza, Alexandria, Kafr El-Sheikh, Beni Suef, Sharqia, Menoufia, Sohag, Suez, Damietta, Assiut, Port Said, Gharbia, Minya, and Ismailia. During the campaign, 45,460 citizens registered for vaccination.
In the same context, the Minister of Health reviewed the ongoing preparations to receive a shipment of the "Pfizer" vaccine, amounting to 4.366 million doses, noting that 600 refrigerators were purchased and distributed nationwide to store the vaccines.
Zayed referred to the executive position of vaccination in various agencies, including the state's administrative apparatus, the Ministries of Education and Technical Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Al-Azhar.
She also referred to the plan to release and deliver 1,926 doses of Sinovac-Vacsera during the period from 18 to 24 September 2021, noting that the total locally produced doses of COVID-19 vaccine amounted to 33,678.
Egypt reported 688 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, bringing the total infection tally to 298,296 since the pandemic began in February 2020, said the Health Ministry in its daily coronavirus update statement.
The ministry also reported 24 new deaths, the highest single-day toll of fatalities since 3 July (when 26 fatalities were reported), bringing the total number of deaths from the virus to 17,016.
The statement added that 703 patients have been discharged after recovering from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 251,395.
