Careem combines all offerings in Super App, prepares bike service launch
Company is ensuring both customer and captain health and safety with regular sterilisation, use of medical masks, and plastic insulators

Ride-Hailing company Careem is integrating all its new and current services under one place "Super App", featuring all the company's products in some of its markets, Mudassir Sheikha, Careem's co-founder and CEO, has announced. This ensures customers using the new app will have a one-stop-shop for accessing transport, delivery, and e-payment options.
Sheikha added that Careem has launched a package of new value-added services for customers, including gift cards, city-to-city transport, and a loyalty programme.
During a videoconference, the CEO explained that the gift card service allows users to obtain some services from partners, including Amazon and Netflix. The new city-to-city service enables customers to find out the cost of trips prior to booking, whilst easing customer reservations for return trips.
Sheikha said that customers will receive points for each trip, as part of a loyalty programme, which entitles them to discounts and offers from Careem partners.
Ibrahim Manaa, Careem Managing Director in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Emerging Markets, said the company will also be launching a bicycle rental service.
As part of a first phase to releasing the app, Manaa added that Careem has already activated the super app services in Dubai, Jeddah, Riyadh, and Dammam. The company plans to circulate the app to the rest of the Middle East region markets.
However, Manaa pointed out that demand on Careem trips has recently plummeted by as much as 80%, due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. He said that income for captains working with Careem and the frequency of trips were negatively affected by government imposed curfews in some countries.
He noted that the company was able to overcome the crisis, and is working to win the trust of customers by providing cars equipped with the highest standards of customer and captain safety. This includes regular sterilisation, the use of medical masks and the installation of plastic insulators in some markets, including Egypt.
The step comes as part of Careem's Go Aman service, with a tariff of 10% higher than its other Go services which are found in 100 cities in 13 countries around the world.
