The British embassy in Egypt hosted the fifth training workshop for 25 future female leaders as part of the Young Women Leadership Programme "She leads", which kicked off in February 2019, according to a Tuesday statement by the embassy.
She Leads is a 10-month programme that trains and mentors Egyptian female students in their final two years at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at Cairo University.
Each student has a mentor who provides support and guidance during the programme period, in addition to attending a series of leadership workshops. The programme is a collaborative project between the embassies of Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore, and the United Kingdom.
This workshop's theme was "Effective Communication." Previous workshops focused on developing women's negotiation skills, outreach, and managing difficult situations, in addition to building self-confidence, developing strategic thinking, goal setting, and time management. The programme also aims to help young women identify their own leadership styles and goals.
"Investing in Egypt's youth means investing in Egypt's future. That is why we are proud to collaborate with four other embassies to invest and nurture the skills of these young female leaders," British ambassador to Egypt, Sir Geoffrey Adams, said.
During the past years, Egypt has seen increased female participation in many sectors, the ambassador noted, adding that the embassy looks forward to continuing to support Egypt's efforts to empower women in all spheres of life.
"I'm so privileged to be part of such a programme. These workshops really changed my life and personality. Now I'm judging situations differently, I know myself better, and I broke lots of my internal fears. Sharing the work and life experience of my mentor is like seeing the future of my path and where I want to go with my career," Aya Abd Elaal, one of the She Leads ambassadors, said.
