Egypt's Interior Ministry identifies suspect behind Alexandria security chief's bomb attack
"Suspect left Egypt to receive training on using and manufacturing explosive devices," ministry claims

Egypt's Ministry of interior said on Thursday that it identified one of the alleged suspects behind a bomb attack that targeted the Alexandria security chief's envoy last March, adding that it killed six others involved.
The ministry said in a statement that the suspect "is a member of the Hasm militant group," adding that he "left the country in 2017 to receive various trainings in using different arms and manufacturing explosive devices, and after his returning in bombing the Alexandria security chief's envoy."
According to the statement, the identified suspect "drove the car bomb used in the attack, and then left it in Roman Camp Street in Alexandria (where the envoy was passing) after he ensured activation of the explosive bomb".
The ministry further said that its security forces "succeeded in raiding a hiding place in Beheira where other members of the Hasm militant group involved in the attack were hiding, which led to the killing of six of them, as well as finding different kinds of arms," read the statement.
The ministry added that it arrested the head of the group involved in March's bomb attack, who is one of the leading members of Hasm, saying that "he was responsible for arranging a car for the attack, as well as using it in delivering the explosive substances to the suspects in preparation for the attack."
Last March, two police conscripts were killed and five others injured in a bomb attack that targeted Alexandria Security Chief Mostafa Al-Nemr's envoy, just a few days before the presidential election of 2018. The Ministry of Interior at that time said that an explosive device planted underneath a car exploded as Al-Nemr's envoy drove by on Roman Camp Street in the Roshdi district.
