The curfew in 14 governorates will be lifted on 14 November, said the interim government's Deputy Prime Minister Hossam Eissa. Eissa, who is also the Minister of Higher Education, said that the country's ongoing curfew would be lifted with the state of emergency in mid-November. Both the curfew and state of emergency were enacted on 14 August, the day security forces violently dispersed sit-ins supporting ousted president Mohamed Morsi. The state of emergency had been initially put in place for one month, but was consequently extended for an additional two months by interim President Adly Mansour. Last month cabinet spokesman Sherif Shawky issued a press release saying that the state of emergency would not be extended past its third month, scheduled to end on 14 November. Constitutional expert Raafat Fouda had told Daily News Egypt that the end of a state of emergency would involve lifting curfew, as the latter "is a consequence of the state of emergency." Curfew was initially imposed from 7pm to 6am, but had been gradually reduced to 1am to 5am, with the exception of Fridays, when the curfew has remained at 7pm since the measures were initially put in place.
