In Egypt, medical appointments now at click of mouse
Published in Bikya Masr on 10 - 03 - 2013

CAIRO: Cairo has become the second city in the MENA region to enjoy the benefits of a new online medical directory and booking service to help residents of the city find the right doctor or medical specialist and make an appointment, as easily as booking a flight or making a hotel reservation.
www.doctoruna.com offers a simple, easy and instant fully bilingual tool for patients to access information on medical professionals practicing in Cairo, and make immediate appointments with their chosen specialist. The service, which is free for patients, helps to overcome traditional, subjective and often time consuming methods of finding a doctor through friends and family, word of mouth, or lists from insurance companies that can often be out of date.
With hundreds of doctors and medical practices already listed on DoctorUna, and many hundreds more scheduled to come online in the coming months, the website displays comprehensive information about each one, allowing quick and easy search by specialty, location, health insurance and to compare other key information.
DoctorUna's appointment booking service can be accessed by patients 24/7 from their computer or smartphone even when the medical practice is closed, allowing them to secure an appointment or re-schedule one right away, avoiding calls to receptionists.
Yaasen Dalal, CEO of DoctorUna explained: “Following the launch and overwhelming success of DoctorUna in Dubai just six months ago, we have now expanded our services into Cairo. With well over nine million residents and almost 13,000 doctors practicing in the city, finding a doctor and booking an appointment can be confusing and difficult. DoctorUna is here to ease the entire process by offering members an easy and up-to-date directory of medical experts and enabling them to make convenient appointments with their chosen doctor immediately."
Traditional methods of booking a doctor's appointment can be frustrating for patients and inefficient for practices. With DoctorUna, patients can now book and confirm their appointments instantly online, and take advantage of last-minute openings in doctors' schedules. Reminders are sent by SMS and email and changes in appointments can also be done quickly and easily without having to remember to call the receptionist.
Dalal said DoctorUna's online booking system results in quicker appointment times for patients with the majority of appointments being booked within two days and with 40 percent of patients using the website outside of normal practice hours to schedule their appointments. The booking system is secure with no confidential information seen or stored on the site.
DoctorUna offers additional peace of mind to patients by verifying relevant Health Authority licences for doctors listed on the site.
“Much more than just a directory of medical professionals and practices, DoctorUna provides a community service to enhance patients' ability to lead healthy, informed and empowered lives," said Dalal.
DoctorUna plans to extend its service to all major cities in the MENA region during 2013, with launches scheduled next in Amman, Jordan and Riyadh and Jeddah, KSA.
