CAIRO: Little over one week after the Saudi Arabia Embassy in Lebanon denied telling its citizens to avoid traveling to Lebanon, the country's press agency said that the foreign ministry has done just that. According to the Saudi Press Agency, quoting a foreign ministry official, Riyadh is telling its citizens to not travel to Lebanon. “Considering the unstable situation in Lebanon, the Foreign Affairs Ministry warns Saudi citizens against traveling to Lebanon ... until further notice," the source was quoted as saying. In May, a number of Gulf countries also made similar requests of their citizens, including the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait. On June 22, the Saudi Embassy in Beirut denied a report published by the newspaper al-Akhbar that claimed the Saudi government told its citizens to leave the country by the end of June. “The news that appeared in a local newspaper is totally false and we are surprised that some media outlets circulated such rumors which causes fear in citizens and tourists and does not serve Lebanon's interests ..." said a statement released Friday by the Saudi Embassy in Lebanon, and published in part by The Daily Star Lebanon. The original report, to which the embassy was denying, had said that the embassy called its citizens to leave the country and warned those who remained would be at their own risk.
