A Message to COP28: Israel shall not escape climate justice over environment atrocities in Gaza
Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 03 - 12 - 2023

A message to the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28), currently hosted by the UAE: "As a women born and live in the Middle East region where your meeting is taking place in one of its cities, I feel compelled to remind you of the grave situation unfolding nearby, there is one of the most horrific massacres in modern history taking place around-the-clock.
The Israeli occupation is committing unprecedented massacres, unimaginable war crimes in Gaza, with the most despicable brutal methods of killing and the most destructive weapons, leading to the deaths of tens of thousands of innocent civilians in the unfortunate besieged Strip.
It is an ethnic cleansing against a population of about 2.5 million who did nothing but being the indigenous people of Palestine, who should have the right to live freely and safely. This extermination act is targeting "A Land without People."
Like any occupier that have no morals, Israel finds itself unstoppable, having no hesitation in razing the city. The Israeli troops are killing children, women, and the elderly without getting off scot-free. They are striking hospitals and schools that housed tens of thousands of civilians.
However, you, heads of international institutions and developed countries let out a burst of thunderous applause on the fourth day of COP28, celebrating the establishment of a long-awaited Loss and Damage Fund to support developing countries, who – though low emitters – are affected by climate change most.
Now, while you gather in the fancy convention halls of COP28 in Dubai, Israel continues to escalate its atrocities against Gazans in away even more ruthlessly, after a seven-day truce. Even during the agreed ceasefire, Israel did not stop murdering children in the streets, demolishing houses, torturing detainees, and humiliating them before they were freed.
The occupation is using internationally-banned weapons that are being tested for the first time to bomb "human animals," a terminology used by Israeli officials and influentials to describe our "precious" brothers and sisters in Gaza.
Israel has received the Bunker Buster bombs and Halper missiles from the United States in order to bomb tunnels. It is also using GPS-guided bombs to destroy infrastructure and American GBU-28 designed to penetrate fortified targets deep in the ground and create huge craters similar to those resulting from destructive earthquakes.
This is in addition to the versatile of traditional and smart bombs, both controlled by satellites, targeting the heads of premature babies, infants, pregnant women, mothers, children, and the elderly while they are sleeping peacefully inside their homes. Even those displaced to shelters in schools and hospitals, as well as the sick and injured, were not spared from Israel's brutality.
Now, gentlemen, while you are gathering at the COP28, Isarel's deadly missiles loaded with thousands of tons of explosives, namely the F-16 Barak, the Hermes 450, Eitan, and Nitsos, are bombing innocent citizens in Gaza.
The mass bombing and airstrikes are everywhere. Demolished streets have turned into mass graves. Mark 4 tanks are deployed, and chemical sponge bombs are used to block the tunnels.
Now, I'm addressing the environmentalists and advocates for climate justice. There are children under ten years are under attack by phosphorous weapons, struck by uranium and fissile ammunition, and depleted uranium, very nearby to your gathering at COP28 venues and halls.
I shall commend you for your achievements and future efforts in the coming days. As climate stewards, I urge you to communicate in the language of our Mother Earth rather than that of its inhabitants.
I have a question I would like to ask you. Who will pay for the bill of the ever-increasing climate change threats after dropping hundreds of thousands of explosive bombs on Gaza?
No need to mention the people who lost their lives, been tortured, arrested, or deformed. As I said, lets take empathy and humanity aside now. How can we reach a universal climate justice while Gaza is witnessing unprecedented levels of pollution, poised for even worse doses, due to the Israeli aggression?
The entire Strip will become a pollution time bomb, threatening to hit not only the Middle East region, but also the entire world.
How do the leaders of developed countries congratulate themselves on establishing a loss and damage fund to avert climate change's adverse effects while at the same time they provide weapons to Israel? They brag with their firm support on TVs to the "neo-Nazi" Israel to combat against Hamas, i.e., "the entire Palestinian population."
The developed countries are those who test weapons that are internationally prohibited during this fierce, unfair war against innocent people and civilians, burning humans and properties while shoveling our Mother Earth.
How can you ensure prevailing a climate justice while trees and other living creatures, apart from humans, are endangered in Gaza?
Where is your climate justice while Israel eradicates one of the world's rarest olive trees in Gaza and other agribusinesses that have no presence on any land except for this sacred land?
While discussing climate change in the Southern Hemisphere with Northern aid, it is crucial to prioritise human rights.
Loss and Damage Fund, More Pledges not the Sole Good News we shall celebrate, Global Awakening will tip the scales soon
I'm telling you Gaza has unmasked the evident double standards of your western policy when it comes to defending human rights records and chanting humanitarian emblems and democracy ... Now, we can see human rights ... access to knowledge ... the right to self-determination ... these slogans have fallen now, and the truth has been revealed.
The horrendous carnage in Gaza and your insistence on Israel's "right" to defend itself even in the face of undeniable atrocities, collateral damages, mass destruction, and burning mother earth have exposed the falsity of any of your human principles. The games you have been playing over the centuries to brainwash and change the collective consciousness so we all would voluntarily do what you only desire, believe in your fancy principles are all gone by the wind now.
These games are exposed now by the continuous mass bombing of besieged, occupied Gaza, the blatant killing of unarmed civilians, and the severe deprivation of basic human needs, including food, safe drinking water, medicines, fuel, electricity, and clothes, with no escape from imminent death.
What are the primary climate issues that demand your attention? The loss and damage fund! However, I'll go along with your programmatic, non-sensational talks. I call under enacted laws to protect the environment and address climate change to fulfill commitments made by wealthy, advanced nations to support those countries that are most affected by the damage caused by climate change.
What are the USA's contributions to addressing the environmental disaster in Gaza arising from its support to Israel with weapons, money, and legal justification to the Zionists' horrendous war crimes, ethnic cleansing, and forced displacement of Palestinian people?
What are your plans to provide Gazans with clean, green environment, after being bombed with internationally-banned weapons and the collapse of 70 percent of the city's infrastructure? Does using bombs threaten the geography of our mother earth?
Who will pay the bill of the water and air pollution in Gaza?
Who will cover the cost of Gazans' medical treatment from chronic illnesses caused by war-related environmental pollution and siege?
Who will bear the burden of hazardous diseases like cholera, which may arise from the presence of decomposing corpses on the streets, heaps of garbage and debris from collapsed buildings, microorganisms, and toxic fumes caused by bombing and siege operations?
Who will bear the cost of eliminating carbon emissions from the reconstruction process, and who will track its impact on nearby countries in the region after the end of the Gaza war?
The Gaza tragedy props questions on the scandalous global double standards, wiping off first-world slogans on humanity and setting the record straight among the entire world population.
In the pursuit of "climate justice," a pertinent question arises: in the event of exterminating humans, to whom do we extend our support?
And lastly, as a civilian, I have the right to address the COP, I think it's a grave mistake that the Gaza tragedy hasn't been given the top priority in this year's edition. It's an international crime and a clear indication of the falsehood of all slogans, the failure of international institutions, and the collapse of their principles.
I am happy to share with you that a significant event has occurred – an awakening led by the massacres in Gaza, creating a profound impact on people all around the world, especially the younger generation and children. This will result in substantial transformations and establish transparent, ethical standards that eliminate the need for any loss or damaged funds or donations to conceal ulterior motives of feigning reformists supporting the vulnerable and promoting constructive change.
