The Egyptian Sugar and Integrated Industries Company (ESIC) is expected to produce about 1 million tonnes of white sugar this year as the planted area with cane reached about 332,000 feddans
The Egyptian Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, Ali El-Moselhy, headed a meeting with chairmen of sugar production companies to review the production results expected in 2021 season.
Moreover, the planted area with beet increased by 119,000 feddans to 640,000 in 2020 with expected production of nearly 1.7 million tonnes of beet sugar this year.
The Egyptian government is encouraging investments in the sugar sector to support the local industry in a bid to reach self-sufficiency in sugar production by the end of 2021, El-Moselhy said.
