A group of men wielding swords and white weapons attacked protesters on Friday night in Alexandria's Sidi Gaber district. Security forces arrived to attempt to end clashes, and arrests were reported. Earlier in the day, the protest left from Qaed Ibrahim Mosque area and headed to Sidi Gaber after Friday prayer. Protests were staged against President Mohamed Morsy's declaration through which he claimed sweeping powers including the immunization of the Constituent Assembly that has just voted on a draft to which many are objecting. Meanwhile, a pro-Morsy rally also took from Sidi Gaber and left the district shortly after to avoid confrontations with the opponents' protest. The Sidi Gaber neighborhood witnessed several attacks throughout last year during different protests.
