Cairo -Six Egyptian mummies between 1,800 and 3,000 years old, along with more than 200 other historical items, will be displayed in Hong Kong from June, offering the public an opportunity to learn about life in ancient Egypt with the help of modern technology The Eternal Life: Exploring Ancient Egypt exhibition will be held from June 2 to Oct. 18 at the Hong Kong Science Museum as part of celebrations for the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to China, the Hong Kong Economic Journal reports. Tickets are priced at HK$30. The museum said the mummies, which are from the British Museum, include three men and three women. They were displayed in Australia before arriving in Hong Kong. One of the mummies, a woman named Nestawedjat, is believed to have lived in Egypt about 2,700 years ago, Exhibit curator Paulina Chan said Nestawedjat was thought to be male until the British Museum used the latest scanning technology to confirm its gender several years ago. In order to enhance the visitor experience, the museum has designed a multimedia program and a series of interactive exhibits using the latest technologies such as 3D projection mapping, virtual reality and holograms. The museum uses specially designed showcases to control the temperature, humidity and light exposure so as not to damage the mummies. Chan expects the exhibit to attract as many as 250,000 visitors, according to Headline Daily.
