A police officer in Afghanistan convicted of murdering an AP journalist last year has been sentenced to 20 years in prison. The Supreme Court decision replaced the previous death sentence ruling imposed by a lower court. The officer – named Naqibullah – killed German photographer Anja Niedringhaus and wounded Canadian journalist Kathy Gannon in April 2014. The two foreign journalists were traveling in a convoy of election workers, escorted by the Afghan National Army and Afghan police. Naqibullah, a unit commander, walked up to the car, yelled "Allahu Akbar" (God is Great), and opened fire with an AK-47. Gannon is still recovering from the injuries she received.
