Egypt's foreign ministry released Saturday an official statement confirming its support to the international efforts against the Islamic State (IS). The statement, published on the ministry's website, affirmed that Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has stressed on Egypt's determination to fight terrorism on the local and regional levels, during his meeting with U.S. Secretary of state John Kerry in Washington. "In his statements after meeting with US State Secretary John Kerry in Washington late Thursday, the Egyptian top diplomat added that Egypt is also keen on extending all support for the international coalition for fighting IS terrorist group and other terrorist organizations," the statement read. Shoukry met with his American counterpart, John Kerry on the sidelines of the anti-terrorism summit that was hosted by the White House. He praised the U.S. for its support to Egypt, adding that Egypt looks forward for deeper cooperation on the political, military, and security levels, referring to the economic support extended by the US to Egypt. Shoukry highlighted the U.S. support to Egypt after the brutal murder of 21 Egyptians by IS militants in Libya, adding that "such a crime is only another example of the evils committed by IS." He confirmed that the two countries are cooperating to fight terrorism in Sinai, adding that both sides share the same views on Palestinian-Israeli peace talks, the crisis in Libya and Syria.
