AL MASAR Gallery and itsArt Lounge in Zamalek offer two thrilling exhibitions: “Dialogue of Mind and Soul” by the renowned artist and cartoonist Georges Bahgory;and “Alienation”, the first solo exhibition by the established and highly talented artist Sami Abul Azm. Let's look at Abul Azm this week and keep Bahorgy to the next. The artist is inspired by the collective narcissism that the nation recently experienced when people dreamed of justice, freedom, equality and human dignity. In this exhibition he dwells on what has become of the dream. He describes what the nation is currently feeling: the alienation, separation and fear that dominate our relationships with each other, driving wedges between us. The paintings reflect these feelings beautifully even in the still life and landscape, showing a sense of mystery and the ambiguous silence of a place and an existence, the inner dialogue of things, their presence and absence. This is the visualisation of alientation within, not with the homeland. The exhibition is running through 21 February.
