AFTER more than two years of restoration, the awe-inspiring Palace of Baron Empain in Heliopolis has regained its former glory and was officially inaugurated on Monday by President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi as a tourist destination and a venue for exhibitions on the history of Heliopolis, reports Nevine El-Aref. The palace, glowing in its burnt sienna colouring and showing off its distinguished Indian architectural style, will open its doors to the public from 9am to 6pm over the next two weeks in celebration of the inauguration, with a maximum capacity of 10 visitors allowed in each hall at any one time and 15 visitors on the roof. A tour of the palace takes 45 minutes, and the Tourism and Antiquities Ministry has set a limit of 900 tickets, or 100 visitors a day, until mid-July, after which the limit will be 700 visitors and visiting times will be from 9am to 4pm. *A version of this article appears in print in the 2 July, 2020 edition of Al-Ahram Weekly
