'Egypt will not allow Libya to fall into the hands of terrorists, Turkish mercenaries': Parliament speaker

Egypt's Parliament Speaker Ali Abdel-Aal said MPs have sent a message of support for the efforts exerted by President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi to resolve Libya's internal armed conflict in line with UN resolutions and the outputs of the January Berlin Conference.

MPs seized parliament's plenary session Sunday to heap praise on Saturday's Cairo Declaration on Libya.

The declaration was announced in a press conference Saturday by Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA) Khalifa Haftar, and Libya's Parliament Speaker Aguila Saleh.

"The Cairo Declaration aims to achieve unity and stability in Libya and shows that Egypt will not stand still in the face of moves aiming to threaten the stability of Libya," Abdel-Aal said, adding that, "Egypt and Libya are bound by historical and social ties" and that "Egypt will do its best to defend the interests of the Libyan people."

Abdel-Aal stated: "Libya constitutes the strategic depth of Egyptian national security, and so Egypt is closely following developments in Libya."

"In this respect, I ask the Libyan people to support its national army in its war against terrorist groups and mercenaries supported by Turkey,” Abdel-Aal said, adding: “Those who want to resurrect old dreams of expansion in this part of the world forget that Egypt will not allow Libya fall into the hands of groups of terrorists, not to mention that those who inject money to support these terrorists will face a fierce response."

Abdel-Aal, who was present at the Cairo Declaration press conference Saturday, said “The fact that 22 ambassadors in Egypt attended this conference as well as the positive response shows how Egypt is serious about Libya and that it will not allow terrorists control it."

"Those who have dreams on colonising the Arab world again will go to the dustbin of history," Abdel-Aal said.

Ahmed Raslan, head of the Arab Affairs Committee in parliament, said the press conference in which the Cairo Declaration was announced helped expose the conspiracies being engineered to colonise Libya.

"The Cairo Declaration comes as a direct response to the new Turkish colonists who seek to impose their control on parts of the Arab world and seek to steal its wealth and riches," Raslan said.
