Egyptian appeal, primary and specialised courts, as well as the Court of Cassation, will return to work after the three-day Eid Al-Fitr holiday which begins on 23 May, the country's Supreme Judicial Council announced on Tuesday. A statement by the council underscored the need to abide by all precautionary measures set out by the cabinet to curtail the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. The move comes two weeks after the resumption of inheritance hearings at all courts. Court proceedings had been suspended since March in light of the coronavirus. But the government has said it will gradually ease restrictions to take steps to help return life to normal after the Islamic holiday. Accordingly, some of the government services suspended by the state resumed last week, including the reopening of traffic offices for licensing new vehicles and limited registration services. Egypt has so far reported nearly 10,000 coronavirus cases, including over 500 fatalities. The daily case rate continues to rise.
