Egypt's prosecutor-general ordered on Friday a 15-day detention for former diplomat Maasoum Marzouk, university professor Yahia Kazaz, economist Raed Salama and four others pending investigations into aiding terrorism charges. The prosecution accused the defendants, who were arrested on Thursday, of aiding a terrorist organization in achieving its goals, receiving funds for terrorist goals, and conspiring to commit a terrorist act. Marzouk was a leading member of the Nasserist Popular Current and the spokesperson of the 2014 presidential campaign of Hamdeen Sabahi. Yahia Kazaz is professor at Mansoura University, while Raed Salama is an economic researcher and writer.
