Egyptian newspaper editors visit assaulted Egyptian worker in Kuwaiti hospital
Published in Ahram Online on 07 - 12 - 2017

A delegation of editors of Egyptian newspapers on Wednesday visited an Egyptian man in a Kuwaiti hospital who was brutally assaulted at his workplace in the Gulf state earlier this week, Al-Ahram Arabic news website reported, after the incident trigged an online outcry in Egypt.
Wahid Mahmoud Refaie, who works at a shop that sells motorcycle spare parts in Kuwait, was severely beaten by a Kuwaiti customer, allegedly for telling the latter the shop staff was on break.
CCTV footage of the incident circulated online on Tuesday, sparking fury from Egyptian social media users and prompting the foreign ministry to intervene in the matter. The video shows the Kuwaiti man repeatedly punching the victim in the face, hitting him with an object and kicking him in the head.
The Egyptian editors who visited the victim included editor-in-chief of Al-Ahram Weekly Ezzat Ibrahim, editor-in-chief of daily Al-Masry Al-Youm Mohamed El-Sayed Saleh, editor-in-chief of Al-Ahram's Siyassa (International Politics) magazine Ahmed Nagy Kamha, and the Cairo editor of Kuwiti Al-Seyassah newspaper Abdel Ghany Salah.
The men were in Kuwait City to cover a key regional summit by the six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council.
Egypt's Immigration Minister Nabila Makram Ebeid is scheduled to arrive in Kuwait on Friday to visit Refaie.
Egypt's foreign ministry said Wednesday that Kuwaiti authorities have arrested the assailant and were listening to the victim's testimony about the incident.
