PROGRAMME: El-Geneina Theatre to host local, regional musicians
During August, El-Geneina Theatre is set to host local and regional independent musicians representing several genres on its stage in Al-Azhar Park
Published in Ahram Online on 03 - 08 - 2014

After the success of the Ramadan Hayy Festival, El-Geneina Theatre continues to bring interesting and dynamic independent musicians to its stage at Al-Azhar Park with a diverse programme each weekend throughout August.
El-Geneina will host performances of a variety of music, along the spoken word bands.
The programme also features several appearances of artists from Lebanon, Algeria and France.
El-Geneina's events will kick off Thursday, 7 August, with a performance by Algerian talent Karima Nayt. The musician's career in Egypt was marked by her cooperation with Grammy Award winner Fathy Salama. Since then she has been traveling and producing music in France, Switzerland, Sweden and other countries.
The festival kicks off with a performance by Lebanese rapper and spoken word artist El-Rass, who was most recently performing in Cairo during the Spring Festival's 'Spoken World' night joined by other Arab and African artists. El-Rass holds his audiences captive with strong lyrics that speak of the realities of Lebanese and Arab youth, along with cleverly crafted electronic sounds and beats that he mixes.
The same weekend features Egyptian singer and accordionist Youssra El-Hawary and her band, who will perform a selection of their songs. El-Hawary sings and plays accordion, accompanied by musicians on flute, mandolin, percussion and keyboards. El-Hawary's lyrics often point to society's contradictions.
Finally, the festival will close with The Egyptian Project a folk electronic fusion project between French musician Jérôme Ettinger on the arghul (a traditional windpipe instrument) and mixing beats along with Sayed Imam (vocals), Salama Metwaly (rababa, atraditional bowed string instrument), Ihab Radwan (oud, the pear-shaped string instrument) and Anthony Bondu (drums).
